I fixed mine last year after going without for a few years.
It blows cold but on really hot days, mid 80's or higher, it will start making this loud humming noise. I am pretty sure is not the compressor, as I just replaced it and though most of the time it will only happen while driving, it did occur once while parked and the noise was not coming from the compressor, more like the firewall area.
I can't figure it out and I can't always reproduce it, so I can't take it to an AC shop to listen to. I am wondering if maybe it has something to do with the condenser icing up?
