Looked at this 2002 Boxster S today. Price is $13K, I could have made an offer of $12 and walked away with the car. With 55K miles, it drives beautifully. Owner encouraged me to really flog it. My impressions:
it's fast. a little faster than my 84 but doesn't feel like it's going fast.
Instills confidence. With a little seat time, you could be very fast at the track with with a car like this. Felt unflappable. This was the best part of the car by far.
Sound. If you've never had a 911, the sound would be fine. otherwise would need some sort of exhaust mod.
Convertible wasn't as "wow" as I remember driving a 69 MGB I had long ago.
Owner is a very nice young guy that wants to buy a house and do something with a boat he has. If I didn't have the 84, I would have bought it. BUT, and this is only for me, I don't think it would be as fun as a 911. It's a little too refined for my taste.
Suspect that with a 3.4 and 300hp this car would be perfect as a daily driver. I'd like to know how you can/if you can take 200-300lbs out of them.
