2,2S VIN in a 2,0E tube... your opinion...sell?
Hello,
I need your opinion. A friend of me bought a what he thought 2,2S in America . Now the car arrived and he asked me for my opinion. He was told that the car was started to restored 20 years ago and then stored, it was still in primer. I drove to him looked at the car and was more than confused because I found a sportomatic tank in the engine compartment. I know that there have never been spotomatic transmissions in an S car. So we checked the production code behind the ashtray. And we found out that this code is from 1969, together with some other minor things I am 100% sure that someone sometime changed the VIN. -we havenīt scratched the paint around the VIN away. Like it is now you cannot see anything. I talked to a friend who is lawyer and ask about what to do, because that is what my friend asks himself, too. He said that from his understanding it is not a crime to sell, as long as the sales contract clearly say what happend with the car/VIN. My friend says that with knowing the history at the moment he is more into selling than keeping it. For me it is a shame, because it looks rust free and without any signs of welding on the floor, tank support,...
What would you guys advice and the more important question...Would there really be someone willing to pay for a car with this history??
