Not big on history, eh? The 911 was originally named the 901. why? The fresh Porsche design used some VW parts. To keep in line with the part numbering system the Porsche model was given the next available 3-digit code - 901. Peugot got upset because their cars all had 3 digit names with a 0 in the middle. Porsche obliged and changed the number to the next logical code - 911 - but perhaps you already knew that.

The 911 was designed to replace the 356. The 356 brought Porsche forward from WW2 and the design borrowed heavily from the Volkswagen. Place an early 911 beside a late 356 and the similarities are quite amazing. Draw your own conclusions, but when you sit in a late 60's Beetle and a SWB 911 the interior defitiely reminds one of the other.

Is it a Beetle - NO - not even close. Can it remind you of one? Certiainly IMHO.
