Somebody has finally given a gun to that monkey...
At 33,000 feet, it may have taken a bit more wherewithall to figure out what it was than to shoot it down. Now that these tiny little pissant rebel factions all over the world have acquired these kinds of weapons, this should come as no surprise. They do not have the training, nor probably the equipment, to discern what they are shooting at at the ranges they are now capable of engaging. There could be no possible strategic reason for them to have done this on purpose. I think someone is thinking "oh shi...." right about now.
