A good beer is always a good thing, but I always made a stop at Schat's Bakery for some squaw bread too. Unfortunately younger guys tend to think being younger lets them pass on conditioning. Twelve years ago my buddy & I were going back into the Sierras for two weeks, entering over Taboose Pass. The trail starts out in the desert at 5,600 ft. & tops out at 11,500 at the pass. It's one of my favorite ways to get back into a place called Lake Basin, but it's kind of a grind. My buddy's son in his early to mid thirties wanted to join us. We were both 60 at the time, and my buddy told him to get into shape beforehand - which he sort of passed on thinking youth would give him the advantage. It took us two days to get him up to the pass. He complained his thighs were trembling most of the way.
