Statistically, cross-country car trips are unimportant to the average person. Why argue issues that are largely irrelevant? It *can* be done. But it likely won't be done often in the real world. Same for gasoline powered cars.
Supercharger locations are only important along routes that a Tesla owner would frequently travel. And only to those who intend to use them. Are they free? Not quite. It's free for Tesla S85 owners, and the use of Superchargers was a $2000 option for S60 owners. It's built into the price of the car. Might as well get your money's worth if you own a S85. As I pointed out, even if you never once use a Supercharger (ie, bought a S60 without the option to use them) and charged in-home overnight, it would still make sense 99% of the time. The Superchargers are just icing on the cake, for some.
