You can have your rain, more rain, bone-chilling damp cold, moss, patchouli, seasonal depression, attitudes, hipsters, traffic, bad drivers, Nazi gas station laws, high income/property taxes, and "progressive" politics, all while "keeping Portland weird".

I'll take the "nuclear furnace heat" for 3 months, and enjoy the comfortable shorts-and-t-shirt weather the rest of the year. I lived in the PNW for years and am plenty familiar with both locales.

Oh, and if the heat ever does get annoying here, we can get to cooler temps and "trees everywhere" in about an hour (driving). If you have more time, you can get to San Diego, Las Vegas, or even the Sea of Cortez in less than 5 hours by car. Where can you go from Portland within an hour (or even 5 hours) drive to escape the cold in the winter?
