I thought the same thing initially, but you get acclimated pretty quick. Central A/C is definitely mandatory though. I grew up in AK (Anchorage and Eagle River), and miss it (including the weather) much more than the PNW. The cold in the winter is fairly dry most of the time, so it's not nearly as bad as the constantly-humid cold of the PNW winters IMO. The summer nights were awesome as well.
