When driving from SJ to SF, 280 is very scenic while 101 is not scenic at all. It takes about 45 minutes. But if you want to make a day of it, go over to Santa Cruz and then up the coast on Highway 1 through Half Moon Bay and Pacifica. It's a beautiful drive. Sam's Chowderhouse in HMB for lunch is a fun stop.
