Can't remember the year, but Yeager went Mach 1 that day - 50 years after he first did. Anyway, I so admired this guy's Staggerwing. The interior was done up like an old comfortable leather chair with some hi tech stuff added in, and I understood it was an awesome plane. I heard the next week that on his return home he ran it out of fuel near his home. He apparently had trouble connecting with the refueling guy before he left. Story was he was a commercial pilot. Don't know about all the rest, but that plane was a beauty.
