Wow. I got a $150 Hondo Strat copy for Xmas and was told, if I kept up with lessons, I might get an amp for my b-day in May. So I played through my stereo and practiced to the point of my folks taking it away from me (due to my schoolwork suffering), but they did give me a Marshall Lead 20 for my b-day.
