It's not difficult to determine which eye is dominant. Easiest way is simply to close each of them (one at a time) and look at things with just that eye. Your dominant eye will naturally want to stay open, and kinda "fight" you.
I've never really been a pistol shooter. For rifles, we kept both eyes open to scan for targets; once target was acquired, close weak eye for proper sight picture. In Basic training, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Finally, a Drill Sergeant tested my eye dominance. Told me to shoot left handed, and I've qualified Expert ever since.
