Her original owner died, Lady was placed in a shelter, adopted, that family acquired more (smaller) dogs, then surrendered Lady, who was then adopted by another family - but missed her previous family so much so left and traveled on her own nearly 30 miles back to them, who rejected her a second time - so she was once again taken to a shelter. The story was picked up by the media and word reached the Helen Rich estate - who does a lot of work for animals in need. The rest is history.

Lady, an elderly black Labrador, had been passed between animal shelters and families for most of her life as she didn’t get on with other dogs.
Recently she escaped one family before making her Homeward Bound-inspired trip to her previous owners.
Sadly, her old owners rejected Lady, and she was taken in once again by a shelter.
However, Helen Rich (formerly Rosberg), an author and heiress to the Wrigley Gum fortune, read about Lady’s plight and decided to adopt her to let her live out the rest of her days on her 120-acre farm.
