Hey Baz, seeing your mention of the dog agility show brought to mind an amazing meet we came across while traveling in N Z years ago.
This gathering was in the countryside on a sheep farm. One of the events took place on a hillside, a few sheep were released on the upper part of the hill. Then the competitors ( handler and dog ) were tasked to bring the sheep down the hill and thru a gate.
There seemed to be two classes of team, some used sound signals, whistles and shouts, others used just hand signals. The handler stayed at the bottom of the hill directing the dog, who ran up the hill to round up the sheep and bring them down. It was a timed event.
This turned out to be the most fastenating display of man dog coordination we had ever seen. We ended up staying there for hours. Meeting the folks and dogs was interesting, watching them work was astounding.
The often silent communication between man and dog were baffling , the interaction between the dogs and sheep was often comical. Those dogs could put the "stink eye"
All over those poor sheep.
You would have loved seeing it happen.
Cheers Richard
