It's a great idea but in practice the infrastructure is expensive and ugly.
Trolley Buses have been used for decades in Athens. Because of the length of the booms they can switch lanes and negotiate traffic better.
But the over head lines are not discrete and they can limit other heavy traffic.
What's needed in an in ground supply but then you have issues of safety.
