is this really a problem? not to poo poo this, but i haven't heard of any problems.
i've messed with various coils and such over the years. i have never seen an engine power increase over a properly functioning OEM coil on any car, in street use. in the extremes of a race car, where revs are constantly above 6k, i have seen the performance coil resist failure better, and prevent misfire. however, in dealing with hundreds of cars, i can count on my hands the number of high rpm misfires i've had to deal with. sometimes a better coil solved it. sometimes it was as simple as getting rid of the pathetic OEM copper plugs, and going with an iridium plug.
i tried the bosch super blue coil, which i had been running on pretty much every car i had up to that point, in the blue 968, and the OEM coil actually ran better. no misfires or anything, but it felt a tiny bit soft. not sure why that was. might even have been my imagination. regardless, the brand new super blue coil now sits in a box.
currently i am running on an OEM coil, and revving regularly over 7k. i have yet to have even 1 high rpm stumble or misfire. that being said, i run iridium plugs, and good wires.
while i'm sure the testing is accurate, and there is certainly nothing wrong with a better spark, i wonder what the real effects are, especially given the expense.
i think i would have to see some failure rates of OEM and some real world results showing some sort of improvements before i would switch. i'm all for more performance, and i'm first in line to buy something and put it in my car. all i need is a good reason.
