i just checked, and the 944 uses the same coil as the 968. if there were going to be a problem with the coil, one would think it would be in the car with the highest demands on the coil, which would be the 968. however, to date, i only know of 1 failure.
that isn't to say that a race car would not benefit from a better coil.
