"Why would the first couple of gears on that turbo tranny be different than what you have?"
I may not have been clear enough here- on the $3500 tranny, the first two gears are the same as on a regular turbo trans, but then 3,4,5 are shorter than their respective counterparts in a regular turbo trans. So it would lead to more powerful acceleration in those gears, but with a lower top speed. Would be useful for DEs, racing.
"You can find a used tranny for a lot less than $3500."
True. This one is different, though, because of the different gearing and the fact that its fresh and I have assurance of its function. I can't remember the brand name of the custom gears. Should I call back and get it (if it would help with your recommendation)? And if I wanted a used tranny, how could I get one I'd be sure of? I mean, if I put it in and it is about to wear out that seems pointless. I'm not opposed to the idea of buying a used trans, but I need some help in how to get a good one. And is it worth buying a used one instead of rebuilding mine? And would a used one include a new ring and pinion, or whatever that is? I know the $3500 would, so I wouldn't have to stress about it...
Thanks for the help so far, let me know what additional information I should be getting. Man, I don't know how I am going to pull this of no matter what the decision is...
