Firearm protects you when you are there. When seconds count the police are usually at least a few minutes away. But if it is a non starter then you and the wife have made that choice. Besides wont do anything when you arent there
A non monitored system may give you a recording of the miscreants. Or it may give the miscreants more stuff to sell
A monitored system w panic button is best. Can alert you or police/fire/health for a variety of issues.
Otherwise insurance. Docunent posessions w pics or vids. Small firebox for papers and jewelry but be sure it is properly secured etc.
