I buy the best gear I can afford, which was about $300 on my Shoei (sp?) helmet. I cannot however justify $1400 for the gadgetry in the helmet that does not improve the protection offered. Besides, $1400 to protect my brain is useless if the impact snaps my neck and the casing of the helmet shatters like a lightbulb, right?
And that $1200 lid you have, how much of that dollar value is dedicated to the electronics in your HUD, bluetooth headset, and speakers VS. safety design and impact protection? Or would you rather pay $200 more for those computer devices in a $50 helmet?

Last Monday week ago, a bike rider died on me while I pumped on his chest. The front/crown of his full face helmet was crushed like a boiled egg and he had sustained what turned out to be fatal brain injury. All very confronting, but one of my thoughts at the time was that I don't regret spending $1200 on my Stilo lid.
