Bingo. 1/2 second to pull vacuum in the gauge hoses not connected. Under 30 seconds to pull "initial" air out of the system.
If he can pull ok without coupling issues on the high side, let it rip for 10 minutes with low side disconnected and blue valve closed on manifold and see what happens once red manifold valve is shut off. (switch off the pump)
If there is a leak on the low side it will find its way to the high side in no time.
Worry about the low side connections later. This is just a test.
