The Muji chain of shops used to sell booklets on the theme of the more you know the less you need - basically guides on how to use items for purposes they were never designed for. Clever but using table knives and coins in lieu of a screwdriver is just too tragic....
In the last few years I've developed a theory that I don't actually own my possessions - THEY own me! With an obligation to care for them.
Consequently I try to avoid buying ephemeral crap.
Did I write the above? - Too many pre dinner martinis, too much sangria with the fajitas, too much Irish coffee and then hammer down with tequila slammers on top to keep it all down.
