Figure the front end of the motor refresh (timingbelt ect) at more like a $1000. He should have jumped at $1500. Personally I wouldn't pay more than that for a 78. I would be inclined to spend more on a newer car. You may have $5k in that car before you know it if a couple other things are worn out.
