And it did not occur to you the two issues were related, as in the brake pads are worn completely off and what you are hearing is the brake rotor being gouged out like the f'n grand canyon?

I can still remember doing a brake job at the service station I worked at in the 70's. A cream colored '68 Fairlane came in on a hook. The woman had driven it metal to metal for so long that a caliper piston had worn completely through one side of the disc and had become wedged in the middle, locking the wheel.
