Gas. But if given the choice for gas go with xylene. Diesel use toluene.
Not much either or your oil film on your rings will get compromised. Calculate about a 500:1 mix ratio - if you look at all the fuel additives they all use them and will say it's used as a carrier solvent but in work I have seen in labs those scents actually do the lions share of the cleaning.
Also will boost power according to some papers I've read years ago.
