I've always had cats around except for a few years after our last set of kitties passed away from old age (both 18+ years old). That was hard.

They are very well socialized and the nicest cats I've ever had.
We have a new stray, Sam, that adopted us this spring. He didn't like people at first, but had him checked out at the vet (disease free!) and brought him inside. He's not well socialized; it's like having a cautiously-affectionate miniature black panther in the house. (He pounces on you from above out of nowhere once in a while.)
