If he's this much of a buffoon to you, he inevitably is to the others as well. By being on the receiving end of one of his sprays, you're now "one of them' (ie, a regular guy) in the eyes of the others that have to work with him. It's the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" idea. Trust me, if you were getting on great with this guy,
that's when the others would be wondering about you.
