Maybe some stores should have an express line, in addition to the regular checkout line. (I thought of this while standing in line in the post office.)
In the express line, your entire transaction must be completed in 120 seconds. There's a clock that ticks down the moment you step to the counter. You know what you want. All the forms/labels are filled out beforehand. The package is taped up and ready to go. You just tell 'em what you want, they weigh it, and you pay it. Done. If your transaction isn't done by the end of 120 seconds, you get bounced to the end of the regular line. No exceptions. If you're not sure if you can get it all done in 2 minutes, if you need to ask multiple questions, if you need help filling out forms and labels, that's all fine--just get into the regular line.
