He's not missing the point at all, no matter how many times you repeat it. It's that the point is irrelevant. Since shill bidding is rampant and poorly-policed/enforced/punished, buyers have to protect themselves. It is like any other time you buy anything, anywhere.

Your bread analogy is great. If the loaf was listed at $4 and it became $5 at the register, I'd just say "no thanks" and buy the bread elsewhere. I'm not being forced to spend the extra coin on the bread or an eBay car or any other commodity.

No matter how many times you claim otherwise, the presence of fraud in the marketplace does not condemn buyers to paying more than they "should" for something. You buy things for what the market is, in the place and time that suits your fancy, regardless of any other outside factors.

There has been a ton of discussion about eBay and Porsches in this forum, and even a casual reading should acquaint you with how the system currently works. And it doesn't work at face value, no matter how many folks think it "should". So, since there is really no policing, and since you object to the opportunity for fraud, why would you even think of buying a car on eBay? How could you possibly trust anyone who is obviously attempting to defraud you?
