The Tonight Show - Johnny Carson.
Apparently, Carson went to bat big time for JR to be the new host(ess)...pulling some big strings.
It would have eventuated except that JR swung a deal behind Carson's back (withheld from him) for a talk show of her own.
When Carson found out, he was extremely offended. He was known for being loyal to those he respected.
JR was never invited to host the show again - and never appeared even as a guest.
Only to appear recently as a guest.

I had heard many years ago that she had a reputation for being a little stinker.
