My battery just barely fits. I have an after-market fan with a slightly bulkier fan body. I was able to mount it slightly crooked and get it all to fit. Make sure your battery is under the fixed hold-down bracket.
In your case, why not just remove the fan, and cover the intake hole? You don't use a/c.
