Typical contractor. They'll spin you whatever BS you want to hear to get the job then do it "the way we've always done it". If you'd put it in your contract you'd be able to withhold payment. If you do now you might get away with it if the guy can't be bothered to chase you, otherwise he could pursue a lien against your property and make your life a pain.

Guy came by for his check today and I showed him the now 60 nails we picked up. He agreed to take $50 off the bill. But I think I still managed to pick one up with the R rear tire on the Porsche.
