Spent a little time playing with the steering rack and decided I'd postpone putting everything back together pending a new compensating line (can't get the L-shaped hose nipples without the rest of the line, apparently).
It took a good bit of effort to get the centering screw fully inserted in the steering rack, as the PO (or his representative) ran the pressure line from the PS pump directly over the hole for the centering screw.
Tightened down the hose clamps on the electric water pump. Hopefully that will iron out the last of the coolant loss when the system is under pressure.
