I've tipped over 100% for breakfast.... My wife and I sat down, simple light breakfast, under $10 total bill. However, we were there for about 2 hours BSing, place was slow, and waitress brought us at least 3 refills of coffee. So as I recall, I left $20+.... I ofter tip heavy for light orders, and add on for trips to the table.
Above OP scenario, I'd typically pay the bill with CC, and leave at least a $10 cash tip for good service.
And I agree with others above, tip bartenders heavy and learn their first name. Before long you are getting stiffer pours, bigger glasses, and they 'buy' you drinks.
Except for the places that auto-add tips. I'm offended by that, and typically leave no additional tip.
