No it doesn't create a very large blind spot...
Compared to the mirror? or a need to check for low flying planes or helicopters...
The pic I posted of my mount doesn't show depth well, but the face of the detector is just proud of the face of the mirror.. and the pic was taken from between the seats.. from above..
The way the mount articulates, and depending on the geometry of the windshield etc.. you could almost hide the detector behind the mirror...
It really does not interfere with your view out of the car from the drivers seat...
