"Behind the scenes during the filming of "Riot In Cell Block 11" (1954). Just a few years earlier Leo Gordon was doing time in San Quentin. As you can imagine, it was a miserable time. He told me a lot of prison stories. One thing I had never thought about was the noise. For four years he never experienced a quiet moment....ever. Banging, clanking, screaming, crying, bell ringing, pissing, moaning, groaning, jangling, Day and night. On and on.
One night, a noise drowned out all others. Someone blasted a fart so loud and long it seemed to shake the entire cell block. A moment later, a voice called out, "Sing out, sweet lips!"
Laughter swept through the cells. Even the guards lost it."
