I'm guessing the dealer is referring to oil in a new toyota and a special blend of oils that is used to break in those engines. New cars typically have a "break in" oil that is supposed to remain in the enigne for the first 5,000 miles to penetrate engine oil seals and make them ready to last a long long time. After the 5,000 mile break-in period most recommend to go to full synthetics for the rest of the life of the engine. Oil change intervals are really determined by how hard the engine is worked. Towing required more frequent changes, towing in the desert even more frequent, maybe as low as every 1,000 miles in that situation. Most normal driving 5,000 is fine, synthetics even 10,000 might be ok, especially if there is alot of easy highway miles.
