Overkill. I'm sitting here in my shop... you know the Toyo shop. Yes, you can abuse most toyotas and they'll hold together, but if you want your truck to really last, do the 3000. Unless you're running mobil 1 synthetic.
It's just not a good idea to beat the heck out of the truck engines. I've seen them blow pretty early on due to lack of maintenance.
Be good to your car and it will treat you accordingly.
