I took my 83 SC Targa , 150kmi in to Garage One in Carpinteria CA - due to a no start issue. turns out the CIS box failed- had it rebuilt, and then learned of 2 broken head studs when doing a valve adjustment. I can't afford to do the whole motor - it's dry, and ran really well for 150koriginal mi. I want to drive my car and not park it till I can save 10-15k$ for a whole motor done right so Marlin there said he could just drop the motor , do the studs and possibly a valve job ( if guides or seats look bad ) and put it all back together and it should be a good driver ( albeit still with 150 k mi.) This is all going to cost me ~ 3- 4.5 k$ for all new studs ( Supertech ) and possible valve job & clutch. I could do this myself ( never done a Porsche though ) but have no time or space to do it.
The motor and trans are original and motor is dry, but the trans leaks a bit.
Does anyone have any advice on either Garage One or if I am just wasting my time and money doing a partial job ( though it's all I can afford for a while.)
