I hate to be a pain but nothing beats a proper safe.
The thought of having a firearm so easily "available" like this fills me with dread.
Or what would it take to break that shelf open?
... Sure the crooks would need to know what's in there but I suspect an experienced crook would spot that hiding place in a few seconds.
What about a small steel safe hidden and secured inside a cabinet?
One problem though is that it would take a few seconds longer to get the safe open.
