Searched long and hard for a used Toyota 4x4 V-6.....Biggest engine they made up to 2005 was a 3.4.......As I only use a PU about 5,000 miles/yr, I was looking for something about 6-8 yrs old.....Best price for anything considering was at least $12K.
Bought a 2004 Mazda 4.0 V6, 4x4, Extended cab for $8K......It's my 4th Mazda PU. It does all I need to do....More power than my old 3.0 '92 Toyota and still gets better mileage...Both 5 speed.

Which is to say, you bought a Ford Ranger with a Mazda badge.  Good trucks though, my in-laws have an old Ranger that they can't kill.
