It was an amazing period in history.
For fighters with 8 .303 MGs (Hurricane, Spitfire etc) the RAF required that guns were harmonized at 400 yds.
However, more experienced pilots knew that opening up at 400 yds simply informed the enemy that they were in deep kak. They had their guns harmonized at 250 yds!
