If you have a full service history and it doesn't show a new IMS bearing and there is no label on the door jam (if it was an L&N product) and you have no paperwork - assume you have an original bearing as anyone who has spent the money changing it is going to want to promote this as a value added part of the sale price. It is hard to know which type of bearing you have - either single or dual row as the change over occurred somewhere during the 2000 model year - even Porsche doesn't know (or won't tell) the exact serial number motors where this occurred. The dual row bearing is significantly stronger then the single row as per the failure data that came out of the IMS lawsuit in the US. If you have 160K miles on the original I rather suspect you have a dual bearing and or it must have been changed. My 99 has the dual row and I changed it two years ago at 140K (Kms) and the bearing was in perfect condition but I elected to go with the L&N replacement anyway - just because. The only sure fire way to know what you have is to have the bearing inspected next time your in for a clutch. If your a Tip owner you have even less to worry about in combo with a dual row - it's a pretty rare failure. Worry about your AOS or water pump first.
