Did you hammer on the tt shaft at all? I know someone that did and it mushroomed the end a little bit. I filed between the splines and it went right on.
Try shifting the trans a little.
Try loosening the trans bolts to manipulate the trans more and try to slide it on. Keep a jack under it when you do this.
Don't hammer the coupler on unless it is seating on the splines properly, it's ok to tap it to help it go on, but nothing more. Force will damage the splines. Keep rotating the trans input shaft while trying to slide the coupler forward to find where it will seat. If you feel it hit and start to seat, keep forward pressure and manipulate the trans with your other hand.
