After selling my white '88 a while ago, I finally succumbed and bought a replacement, a brand new 991. Like my old car, the new one has almost no options, just the sport chrono pack and the sport steering wheel. No sunroof, no electric suspension, no automatic transmission, no power seats. It's about as light a 911 as you can buy today.
I thought I wouldn't like this car, that it would be too big and too ordinary, too soft, too artificial, too water-cooled. But mostly too big:
But I love it. It's still a 911.
- You can still feel the engine hanging out the back.
- You can still steer it with the throttle.
- It still sings that special song when you wind it out
- It still feels alive
- It still says go, go, go
It does not, however, smell the same, and for me, no car will ever look as good as the back of an old 911 on Fuchs wheels...
