I think the recommended value for men is something like 38 grams. Something that I've read or maybe my Dr said that 50-60 grams is better. I started taking niacin and eating lots of fiber and drastically reduced my sugar intake and dropped my cholesterol from 240ish to 164. My LDL went from 190 down to 98.
