There are still plenty of WWII vets in Germany who receive pensions from the German gov't. for their wartime service. IIRC, Adm. Doenitz, even after serving 10 yrs. in Spandau Prison, got a pension, but it was reduced to that of a captain, since promotions above that had to be approved by Hitler. But I don't know why that's less deserving of a pension, as Hitler was the head of state at the time. Actually, Doenitz was Hitler's successor, so he was head of state for a few days. And Erich Honnecker, while head of E. Germany, even got an "honor" pension from the W. German gov't., as he was a political prisoner for the entire 12 yrs. of the Nazi regime.
