From the other perspective, I recently bought a nice little used Boxster for my daughter's first car. She drives it to school every day. A good friend of mine owned it, so I know it has been well cared for. She is quite a good driver. Very smooth. Very alert. I'm proud of her because she has learned to drive a manual, which only a tiny handful of the kids in her school can do. She drives it well too, with easy, precise shifts, and a deft touch on the clutch. I want her to have a car that is safe to drive, with good handling and good brakes. It gets good gas mileage. And yes, its fun. That's important too. I want her to grow up with the same love for Porsches I have, and knowing that there is more to cars than just transportation. She's becoming a real enthusiast already. She likes going to club breakfasts with me, and asked me recently if she could enter an autocross with the Boxster.

She actually has two Porsches. A few years ago I bought a 356 C coupe for her, but it is still undergoing restoration. Depending on where she winds up for college, maybe she will have it then, or maybe later, but it is intended for her and she knows it. Of course some day she will inherit a few more. I want her to have the proper appreciation for them when that happens.

I drove a '69 911 in high school. I don't think it hurt me any.
