Phil, that happened to me after I left my 996 in the garage for a few weeks without hooking up the battery to my trickle charger. I have a trickle charger called a Battery Tender. It comes with an adapter which I can plug into the cigarette lighter on the dash of the Porsche. I just used that port to charge the battery. I don't remember how long it took, but within a couple of minutes I was able to open the front baggage area. Now, I usually keep the battery charged with just using the "cigarette lighter" port.
